I met Dónal soon after moving to Arran when I volunteered to help out with the Arran Folk Festival which, at that time, he was running. I’d been looking for someone to play bluegrass with for years in Luxembourg without success, so you can imagine my delight when I found Dónal after having been on Arran for only a few months. We have similar sensibilities when it comes to music and have a lot in common. We’ve been playing together in one form or another since 2008 and at least twice weekly since he and Nicola took on Fiddlers’ in Brodick.
Playing with Dónal has done a lot for my own playing. I’ve yet to find something that he can’t join in with after one or two listens! We played together in The Saggies and currently in the Arran Ceilidh Band and North Country Winters.
