The Saggies formed in 2008 as the Saggy Bottom Boys, a 6-piece band, to fill a support slot for the revived Arran Folk Festival. It was such fun that we kept it going. Sadly we lost guitarist John McLean to cancer in 2010 and things dwindled for a while, but I kept playing many of the Saggies songs, as did banjo and guitar player Mike Bailey. We got Andy McCallum to join us on bass and the Saggies rode again. We do the odd gig in Crofters when we can get all five of us together on the same night and it’s a really great night to get those songs going again.
Here’s a video of us with John McLean in Whiting Bay Hall, supporting Lúnasa in 2010.
