Shoutout to Dave Skowron of Red Bear Trading who sold me this guitar. What an utter delight it is. So good!

I have some space in my calendar at the moment to take on some private pupils, so if you’re interested, just send me a quick PM. I’m PVG checked to work with minors through my work as substitute guitar teacher at Arran Youth Foundations and as a foster carer for South Ayrshire Council.
I have over 30 years’ playing experience and have been performing since 2005.

You all know I run a guitar podcast, right? You can subscribe to it right here!
Cams is a guitar enthusiast living on the Isle of Arran in Scotland with his wife and two teenaged children. He has a fine collection of instruments and enjoys playing live around the island.
Ealána played a couple of songs from Crofters Music Bar in Brodick.
I’m still working to get the sound as good as it can be, but it’s tricky with the bandwidth that we have here on Arran.
Here’s some good audio of Nicola this time, so you can hear how delightful a voice she has!
I’ve been a member of Tony’s Acoustic Challenge since May 2017 and the daily exercises are pure gold. I decided a while back that recording myself playing them would be a good method of ensuring that I actually play them properly and it’s working! And since I’m recording them, it really makes sense to publish them and try to encourage other players to sign up to Tony’s course. I highly recommend it!

My SCGC Vintage Artist has a ‘Grey Ghost’ sitka spruce top. I remember reading about this back on the original SCGC Players’ Forum, of which I was moderator at the time. Richard Hoover posted pictures and this message:
Richard’s Notes: This block o’ Spruce below is from the “Gray Ghost” a standing tree, dead for decades, that we acquired in the North West. Over this amount of time the resins have crystallized making it stunningly resonant. Almost like cheating. This Spruce is the best sounding Sitka ever. Like having been stored in the barn over fifty years. I’ll tell more of the story when the other pictures come in.
The forum crashed at one point and a lot of original posts were lost, including any reference to Gray/Grey Ghost or Silver Ghost sitka.
Google is revealing very little and all I kept from the time was the image and Richard’s notes, and a PDF print of a forum page from the old forum:
All I’ve found is this Guitar at Dream Guitars, built by Kevin Chubbuck, a luthier with experience at SCGC:
Kevin Chubbuck is a new name in the custom guitar world, but he comes to us with wonderful experience garnered at Santa Cruz Guitars and at Bill Tippin Guitars, where he still works with Bill crafting some of the finest guitars available today. This gorgeous guitar features a rare ‘Grey Ghost’ Sitka Spruce top harvested from a standing dead tree in Washington State by John Wagner. This top is full of silky Medullary rays indicating it is perfectly quarter sawn and special.
All I can tell you is that it’s a phenomenal guitar!
Tuning: Dropped D
Guitar: Brook Bovey
